Omega House offers the following:
- Safe and supportive housing a drug and alcohol free environment
- Case management and supportive services
- Referrals to substance abuse and HIV related counseling
- Staff with experience and knowledge of HIV/AIDS and recovery issues
Guidelines for Omega House
Omega House is a clean and sober residence for 10 men and women living with HIV/AIDS. A resident may stay indefinitely, unless s/he chooses to leave, does not comply with program rules or is in need of a higher level of medical care than Omega House can provide.
Criteria for Acceptance:
- Residents must be ambulatory and have documentation from a primary care of HIV-positive and TB status.
- Residents must be at least 18 years old (16 if emancipated) and willing to make a commitment to staying clean and sober while living at the residence.
Upon Admission:
- Residents must complete 90 meetings (AA/NA) in 90 days, and 3 a week thereafter. AA/NA attendance is mandatory.
- Each month, residents pay 30% of their income, plus a $50 “living expense” fee which covers utilities, cable TV, etc. Residents are given an equal share of all Connecticut Food Bank groceries.
- Residents are responsible for paying for their personal care needs.
- Residents must complete 20 hours a week of “gainful activity.” This could mean: employment, volunteering, taking classes, etc.
- Residents are subject to random urinalysis.
- Residents must attend a weekly “house” meeting and be able to live cooperatively with others.
Individuals who will not be accepted for admission are:
- Individuals in need of emergency psychiatric care or detoxification.
- Individuals who are at a high risk of responding with physical violence.
- Individuals with needs beyond the capacity of the staff and program.
