Guidelines for Omega House

  • Omega House is clean and sober housing for 10 people living with HIV/AIDS. It is expected that unless a resident chooses to leave, or does not comply with program rules, or becomes in need of medical supervision that cannot be provided at the house, he/she will live there for an extended period of time while stabilizing their health and life skills.
  • The population being served at this house consists of men and women ages 18 and above (16 if emancipated) who are willing to make a commitment to staying clean and sober while living at the residence. A history of substance abuse is not a requirement for residency.
  • Residents must be HIV-positive, symptomatic or non-symptomatic, and  ambulatory at the time of admission. To be eligible for residency, a person must have a primary care physician certify HIV-positive status.
  • Residents are charged a monthly fee of $330 that covers rent, heat, hot water, utilities and basic cable. Residents are given equal shares of all donated Connecticut Food Bank groceries.
  • Residents are responsible for paying for their own personal care needs.
  • Residents must either be working or eligible for Town / State assistance.
  • Minimum clean time is not required to enter Omega House, but a resident must not be in need of detoxification at time of entry.
  • Random urinalysis is performed on residents; alcohol and/or illegal substance use is grounds for dismissal.
  • Residents with less than one year's sobriety are expected to be involved in substance abuse counseling or treatment. Staff will assist the resident in selecting treatment options.
  • AA/NA is encouraged.
  • Residents must attend house meetings and be able to live cooperatively with others.
  • Omega House must know a resident's TB, Hepatitis, Chickenpox and Scabils status before he/she is admitted to the House. Documentation of these results is required.

Individuals who will not be accepted for admission are:

  • Individuals in need of emergency psychiatric care or detoxification.
  • Individuals who are at high risk of responding with physical violence.
  • Individuals with needs beyond the capacity of the existing staff and program.
