Next Step : Residential
Step Sytem
The step system is the means by which a resident progresses in the treatment component of the program. Each step has its own set of requirements and privileges. When a resident enters the house, she must earn Step One by being "voted in" by the group. A letter of request must be submitted to one of the counselors and the House Meeting to acquire steps. The letter needs to contain a list of current step requirements, how the resident has met each of them and in the residents own words, why she believes she can progress to the next step. Advancement to the next step relies upon a majority vote by the residents and final approval by Next Step staff. Residents can only progress one step at a time. Any resident may be returned to any previous step as a disciplinary measure.
Each week residents are required to participate in two hours of individual counseling and assigned group counseling sessions. Residents with drug and/or alcohol problems also must attend a minimum of three AA/NA meetings per week.
