Brooklyn Bridge : Residential

The Brooklyn Bridge Program is a 36 bed, intensive, structured, long-term, residential substance abuse work release treatment program for adult male Department of Correction clients, located in Brooklyn, CT. Designed to assist inmates in their return to society, Bridge House acts as a bridge between prison and the community. Utilizing a variety of educational, treatment, and self-help methods, Brooklyn/Bridge Program encourages residents to adopt independent and responsible life styles that are free of drugs, alcohol, and criminal behavior.

The program is funded by the Department of Correction and RSAT (Residential Substance Abuse Treatment) Federal Funds.

Brooklyn Bridge 2006 Program Update

The Brooklyn/Bridge Program served 110 clients this fiscal year 2005-2006. The occupancy rate was 100% for the year. The average length of stay decreased again to 173 days and there were 149 referrals for the year. The cultural diversity remained consistent to previous years with 39 Caucasians, 38 African Americans, 32 Latinos and 1 Native American. The program received a 100% in the Department of Correction standards audit.

The focus this year will be on Discharge Planning. This need has become more apparent as some clients are being admitted with a homeless status and others without parole sponsors. Housing is a problem, as well as available sober house beds. Staff is working on ways to integrate the policy changes from DOC that have clients leaving the program before completion of treatment and our mission to provide quality treatment. We had a security system installed in the program to help the staff better monitor and supervise the clients. Throughout all the changes from DOC the clients have remained motivated to continue treatment.
